Prescott Public Library was awarded a Library Services and Technology Act “Moving Forward” mini-grant of $4000 to provide Crafts-to-Go kits for Prescott area residents. Designed by Librarian Rosemary Medrano, these kits are intended to provide creative opportunities for patrons and foster a connection to the public library, especially during the pandemic.

The kits include all materials, instructions, information about the library, and themed booklists in a library-branded, reusable box. Medrano has also created short, demonstration videos that patrons can find on the library’s YouTube channel.

Roger Saft, Library Director, said “Rosemary’s artistic abilities have been put to use in the library in many ways. Now library cardholders will be able to enjoy her artistry as well.”

A new Craft-to-Go is featured monthly and past crafts include marbled coffee mugs, macramé plant hangers, and bound journals. The Crafts-to-Go program is intended to attract patrons who might not have time to attend a traditional library program or who might be new to the library. They are all geared towards adult interests and accessible for a variety of skill and dexterity levels.

Medrano prepares 50-80 craft kits each month and they are picked up quickly. “It has been great seeing new faces at the library and having people come in and share photos of their crafts with us,” says Medrano. “I hope that they will continue to take advantage of all the other wonderful things our library has to offer.”

This project is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
